White Collar Crime- normally a non violent crime that results in bank embezzlement, business fraud, bribery, antitrust violations or crime in a similar mannor. 

Corprorate Crime-   crimes committed either by a corporation, or by individuals acting on behalf of a corporation or other business entity. Corprate crime ranges from knowingly selling faulty or dangrous products.

Organized Crime- is illegal behavior that is planned and carried out by groups of people in a very systematic fashion.

Hate Crimes-  crimes motivated by hostility to the victim as a member of a group (as one based on color, creed, gender, or sexual orientation)

  A recent study found that about 25% of the hate crimes based on race targeted white people.

Deviance & Gender-in the United States, women who cry in public in response to emotional situations are not generally considered deviant—even women who cry frequently and easily. This view of women has remained relatively constant. Over the past fifty years, however, society’s perception of men who cry has changed. A man who cried publicly in the 1950s would have been considered deviant. Today, men who cry in response to extreme emotional situations are acting within society’s norms

Crime In Global Perspective- The rate of violent crime in the United States is several times higher than in europe. The contrast is even greater between our country and the nations of Asia, including India and Japan where violent and property crime is amoungst the lowest in the world.

The police generally serve as the point of contrast between a population and the criminal justice system. They are to maintain public order by enforcing the law, serving, and protecting the people. (easier said than done.)

  A court determines a suspects guilt or innocence.

 

Community Based Corrections-

 

Usually offered to indivduals who have committed less than serious crimes and have a good prospect for avoding future criminal violations

Community based corrections has 3 main advantages.

1. Reduce cost

2. Reduce overcrowding prisions.

3. Allow for supervision of convicts.
